Dead stock

Stock that has not sold for a long time and probably will not sell at its current price, locking up cash and shelf space.

Also called non-moving stock, obsolete stock, slow-moving stock

Dead stock is inventory that has stopped selling. A product that has not moved for 90 or 180 days, depending on the trade, usually counts. Slow-moving stock is the step before: it still sells, but far slower than you bought it.

Dead stock is money you have already spent sitting on a shelf. It also takes space from products that would sell, and if it has an expiry date it will become a loss. Most shops have more than they think, because nobody looks at what is not selling.

A footwear shop finds ₹1.8 lakh of stock at cost that has not sold in six months. Selling it off at 30% below cost recovers about ₹1.26 lakh to buy faster-moving sizes. Kownt X's stock health view flags dead, slow-moving, expiring and overstocked items.
